'Lady Emma' - Another New Design from JohnW
Here's another new design in the making, straight from the drawing board of our friend, John Welsford. She is the 'Lady Emma'. Note that this is a photo shot from above John's drafting board and not yet a working drawing.
Rather than having us tell you about her, we leave it entirely in John's own words, as follows:
Lady Emma, 6.1m (20ft) on deck, x 2.4m (7ft 10.5ins) beam x 0.5m draft board up, displacement empty but rigged approx 1300 kg, max sailing weight with crew and stores about 1800 kg. She will sail to windward somewhat with the board up, rig choices are gaff cutter or gaff yawl, mast in tabernacle so one person can rig her, full keel option (deeper keel without centerboard, will draw 0.85m ). Ballast in either case is 400 kg.
She has a self draining cockpit and suits an outboard motor up to 6hp mounted in a transom cutout.
This design is all sheet plywood on stringers, very simple construction.
A very seaworthy boat capable of short haul offshore work. She can be trailered using a medium sized ( 2.5 litre ) car or larger.
We think the 'Lady Emma' will be a very popular design as it is an easily built little cruiser for offshore sailing on a tight budget. Anyone interested in building her should contact John Welsford. Click here to go to his website and his contact details (bottom of the linked page).
