The following PDF files have been downloaded as an extract of relevant chapters from a publication produced by The Forest Products Laboratory of the US Dept. of Agriculture, Forest Service. It is referenced as 'The Wood Handbook' (http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/fplgtr/fplgtr113/fplgtr113.htm) and contains some very interesting and authoritative data with regard to the properties and uses of many kinds of wood.

We felt its content may be extremely useful for those who are unfamiliar with the properties and characteristics of various species of timber. At the same time, it is surely a valuable resource for those wishing to experiment with various boat building timbers.

Simply click on the chapter links you are interested in to go to a pdf file that you can download directly from here.
