Just to keep a promise, I thought I'd let you know that I am advertising some of my stuff on eBay.

Please note that the best item I have for auction is my Lie-Nielsen No.62 Low Angle Jack Plane. It has already attracted a lot of attention - more than 30 watchers and six bids already. If you want to have a look, click here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250610612622&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT).

To see the other items, just click on 'See Other Items' on the linked eBay page. Please note that I DO NOT recommend the Anant circular plane. Jamie got it for me at a good price and I gave it a quick go. No doubt it could be tuned up to do a half decent job but I am not inclined to spend time doing that when I have suitable alternatives.

The oak I am selling is NOT suitable for boatbuilding in that it is old and very dry, so it won't do for steam bending. It is, however, highly suitable for fine furniture. I suppose one could use it for fitting out but I plan to use my Brazilian Mahogany for that job. It's already tipped over the reserve price, so there are obviously others out there who can see how good it is for making fine, stable, furniture.

Don't laugh at me selling that cement mixer, guys! I assure you that it did a great job in my laying that concrete floor to the shelter but I am just too old and infirm now for that kind of energy-sapping work. :grandpa: Next time, if there ever is a next time, I will be putting in the formwork and phoning Readymix Concrete. He heh.

Best wishes

Love that Oak, saw some English Oak for sale here in Winnipeg, and it was extremely expensive. That is some very serious timber there. Shame I can't place a bid.

Hope you do well Mike.

Thanks Peter

The problem here in the UK seems to be that people are only buying if they can pinch it off you for next to nothing. One watcher actually emailed Jeannette to ask what the reserve price is on the Lie-Nielsen. When she politely declined to say because t would not be fair on the other 36 watchers, he spat the dummy and sent a very rude response. Some people, eh?

You're right in that it is exceptional stuff. Came with the bulk load I bought that included genuine Brazilian Mahogany, teak, iroko and some other exotics. I was going to have a go at building a nice, rustic, oak table but I can't be bothered with anything distracting from my boatbuilding work. It's reached its reserve price but I probably set that too low. It's taking up a lot of precious space out in the backyard.

I wish I could send it to you, Peter, but it weighs an awful lot and is so heavy it takes Jamie and me to lift each plank - and then with considerable difficulty with the really big ones. It's beautiful stuff for fine furniture. I reckon some planks would make beautiful tables that would sell for a couple of thousand pounds a pop. Ah well. Looks like it will go for a song. You win some and you lose some.

Best wishes

It's only the oak I'm auctioning off, Phil. It's that pile of timber sitting under the green tarp that you saw when you came around here.

I paid a hell of a lot more than what has been bid for it thus far and need it gone. Inferior oak to this lot is selling at about £25.00 a cubic foot, which makes what I have worth around £750.00 at the very least.

You didn't tell me you needed oak and for some reason I was under the impression you had a mahogany interior in Token. I told you I would give you some teak when I get into that lot stacked in my shed.

I tried to flog off this oak not long after I bought it but no one came even close to my reserve of £800.00 at that time - and it's worth far more than that in my opinion.

If you need it, then put in a bid for it mate. The auction doesn't end until Sunday evening. I will look at eBay rules to see if Jeannette can remove the item so you can buy it off me but I won't do anything that would damage her 100% positive feedback eBay rating. She is very proud of that. I'll get back to you on that score.

[Later post script: Phil, check your email. There is a way around it but it would need your urgent attention as time is of the essence. Otherwise, I'm sorry mate but you would have to bid on eBay before the auction ends on Sunday evening.]

Jeez, Phil, you had me worried there. I was sitting here wondering why you would need oak.

No, I am not selling off the wood in my shed. I have a boat to build, remember? And even though she ain't gunna be as big as I would like her to be, she is still going to be beautiful.

Thanks for letting me know. I can relax again now. :JC_cheesy:
