Have you ever been bamboozled by some of the technical terms used by boat designers? I know I have had to scratch my head a few times. A good example is: What is the difference between LOA and LOD? It seems the answer perhaps ought to be 'none' or 'next to none' but such terms can be misused by the less scrupulous types.

I came across a rather interesting article written by designer Ted Brewer which I found most illuminating. As we don't have Ted's permission to reproduce his material, here is a link to the relevant page on his website (http://www.tedbrewer.com/yachtdesign.html).

I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I did. Ted designs some good boats too, by the way.

Best wishes

Ted is a great guy and very down to earth, who has given me very good advice and professional design work for my Whaler. Really surprised me that he took on the work, considering the Whaler was not a big sexy yacht that other designers had turned their noses up at. I think he had a soft spot for the Whaler, and Backyarders.
